Bassett Healthcare Network is an integrated health care system that provides care and services to people living in an eight county region covering 5,600 square miles in upstate New York. The organization includes six corporately affiliated hospitals, as well as skilled nursing facilities, community and school-based health centers, and health partners in related fields.In 2009, Bassett Healthcare became a clinical campus of Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons and is the designated campus for 3rd and 4th year medical students choosing non-urban training. Columbia and Bassett have maintained a formal affiliation since 1947, actively participating in joint teaching and research initiatives for more than six decades. Bassett joined the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System in 2003.

The Central New York area is rich in four season cultural and recreational activities. Cooperstown is home to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, The Farmers Museum (a living history museum circa 1845), The Fenimore Art Museum (houses the Thaw Native American Indian Collection and American fine and folk art), the Glimmerglass Opera House, Otsego Lake, and the Leatherstocking Golf Course.
