The Director of Public Policy reports to the Vice President of Public Policy and, as directed, assists in the implementation of the advocacy and member outreach efforts aimed at influencing the legislative process and/or regulations in a manner favorable for Fairview. This individual works with other Fairview staff and external lobbyists to help facilitate the formation of Fairviews public policy positions and advancement of those policies at the Minnesota Legislature.
Assist in identifying and implementing state advocacy activities.
As directed, engage in external outreach with members of the Minnesota Legislature, legislative staff, administration, and agency personnel communicating Fairview policies and legislative priorities.
Monitor all pertinent state legislative hearings of interest to the hospital community.
Maintain and update a legislative bill tracking system throughout the duration of the Minnesota Legislative Session.
Provide regular written updates on legislative activity for Fairview leadership.

Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education/experience
10 years of experience in advocacy, lobbying or working in state government or other legislative or congressional office.
Excellent communication skills, particularly written. Experience writing briefings for C-suite level.
Ability to interact with high-level leaders and executives
Understanding of the political and policy landscape in Minnesota
Ability to adjust and react to rapidly changing developments
Experience working for or with the Minnesota legislature for a minimum of one legislative session and a background in health policy, health care finance and/or hospital advocacy experience.
