DescriptionThe Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is recruiting a Medical Director of Clinical Laboratories who will hold the single CLIA license for all the clinical laboratories at the base location of the hospital, including the chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood bank laboratories that moved into a new, spacious, state-of-the-art facility in October 2021, the anatomic pathology laboratory, and various specialty clinical laboratories within the Division and within other Divisions in the Department of Pediatrics. The academic rank and pay are commensurate with years of experience.
The Clinical Laboratories of Cincinnati Children's perform greater than 2 million tests per year. The Medical Director will lead a group of six clinical pathologists/PhD clinical lab directors within the Division of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine as well as numerous MD or PhD directors of various specialty clinical laboratories. The Medical Director will work closely with the administrative staff of the Clinical Laboratories (which includes a Quality Management team), medical technology staff, customer service staff, lab processing staff, and the laboratory's specimen collection staff to ensure high-quality service to the patients, families, and clinical staff of the hospital and its associated clinics, the research staff of the institution, and the private practice community served by the Clinical Laboratories; to ensure compliance with College of American Pathologists (CAP) standards and governmental regulations; to provide consultative service and communication to the staff and users of the clinical laboratories; and, to advance research and development related to laboratory testing.
QualificationsThe applicant must be an MD or DO, have board certification in Clinical Pathology or AP/CP, and be eligible for an unrestricted Ohio medical license. Pediatric pathology experience is preferred but not necessary. The applicant must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills and be able to function well within the highly collaborative environment at Cincinnati Children's where interdivisional, interdepartmental, and inter-institutional cooperation is essential. The applicant must excel at teaching and must actively support an educational program that serves medical students, medical technology students, residents, fellows, laboratory staff, and clinical staff.
