JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Quality and Patient Safety provides administrative, strategic, operational oversight and direction of quality management in keeping with the overall mission of Harris Health System with a focus on providing services which promote quality of care, quality of service and patient satisfaction by all levels of hospital staff. This position is accountable for assisting in the development, management and coordination of the hospital-wide Quality Management System. Primary responsibilities include regulatory and accreditation preparation/support, data management, and performance improvement activities that support consistent service, customer needs and continual improvement. The DQPS oversees implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the quality improvement activities throughout the hospital.
The DQPS serves as part of the Administrator's and CNO's liaison team to Department of Health, CMS, DNV and other licensing and accrediting bodies. Reports to the Chief Nursing Officer with a dotted line report relationship to the Administrator. Works collaboratively with the Harris Health System Quality Management Department and Chief Medical Officer to align quality goals and strategies for performance improvement. The DNPSQC works closely with the system quality director, quality directors assigned to other pavilions as well as members of his/her pavilion leadership team to ensure clarity and conformity regarding expectations, responsibility, accountability, professional practice standards and differentiation of practice.
Requires extensive knowledge of DNV/ISO; ability to work independently using sound judgment, clinical skill and to handle sensitive medical matters in an appropriate and professional manner, counseling skills; must be able to work with all levels of personnel within the hospital.
This position is responsible for leading and mentoring departments in all performance improvement activities for the hospital. Included are hospital level reporting/monitoring, department specific quality monitoring, benchmarking studies, and publicly reported data (i.e. core measures). Serves as a change agent in fostering performance improvement initiatives.
In collaboration with clinical and administrative leadership, the DQPS assumes pavilion-wide responsibility for coordinating all aspects of patient safety and quality care development including oversight for required applications, documentation, policies and other programmatic activities that enhance the culture, relationships and the work environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Licensure/Specialized Training:
Graduation from an accredited College/University with a Master's degree in Nursing (preferred), Health Care Administration, Business, or other acceptable related degree. Licensure/Certification:
Registered Nurse, Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Texas, or related clinical practice; Applicable professional certification in administration or health care quality (preferred) is to be completed within two (2) years, if not held at the time of appointment.
Basic Life Support from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program.
Work Experience: Ten (10) years of experience, including at least five (5) years progressive management/leadership experience; Experience congruent with DQPS role responsibilities; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, to include verbal, written, and computer skills (MS Office Suite); Exceptional organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines; Prior management or project management experience with attention to detail required; Experience developing and conducting education programs, preferred; and Project management and/or project facilitation skills
