DescriptionDIRECTOR - DNA Sequencing CoreCincinnati Children's is seeking a Director for its DNA Sequencing Core Facility. This is a faculty position, at the Assistant/Associate Professor level, depending upon the credentials of the successful candidate. Nationally recognized as a top pediatric hospital and biomedical research center, Cincinnati Children's is a highly collaborative organization with a robust research infrastructure, that supports more than $200M in external grant funding.
The DNA Sequencing Core, situated within the Division of Human Genetics, is responsible for the generation of genomic data. The facility operates state-of-the-art instrumentation, including an Illumina?? NovaSeq instrument, Miseq, PacBio Sequel II, and associated robotics and technologies. The Director is responsible for all of the Core's resources, including oversight of an 8-person team and an annual operating budget of approximately $1.0M. The Director's primary responsibility is to enable the work of CCHMC's research faculty, through: 1) the evaluation and timely onboarding of new genomic technologies and services; 2) retention, recruitment and development of technically proficient personnel 3) excellence in customer service and communication; 4) close coordination with the institutional Gene Expression and Bioinformatics cores and 5) assurance of compliance with all federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies, including those required to maintain the CLIA Quality Assurance program.
The successful applicant will have an advanced degree with a strong scientific background in genomics, transcriptomics, and/or epigenetics. ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and exome sequencing experience is strongly preferred. It is expected that the successful candidate will have a collaborative mindset and deep knowledge in the field, and will be able to adapt to advances in methodologies and technologies in the rapidly expanding field of genomics, including but not limited to RNA-, exome- and genome/whole genome sequencing, single cell transcriptomics, CRISPR-Cas9, epigenetics and metagenomics. Preferred candidates will be familiar with bioinformatics as they relate to genomics, a firm understanding of applicable regulatory guidelines (e.g., CAP/CLIA), demonstrated success operating a scientific core with financial sustainability and/or leading and managing personnel, and a desire to work in an exciting academic environment.
