Due to departmental growth and expansion of primary care services, TCOM Department of Family Medicine and OMM is seeking an exceptionally qualified individual who is an excellent academic-clinician with a strong commitment to clinical leadership, education, and team-based patient care. The successful candidate will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the core clerkship curriculum for the TCOM Department of Family Medicine and function as the Core Clerkship Director.

Position Summary:

The Core Clerkship Director is the faculty member responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of the assigned TCOM undergraduate core clerkship curriculum in collaboration with faculty, the chair, and dean. The role includes time for Clerkship Committees, recruitment, faculty development of clerkship faculty, and management of primary rotation sites which house students. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• D.O./M.D. degree or equivalent. Clinically experienced and board certified or board eligible in their specialty.
• Experience with clinical supervision and instruction, and clinical assessment strategies of medical students.
• Have skill in formative evaluation and feedback for individual students; be able to advise and supervise remediation for students with academic problems.
• Be enthusiastic about students and regard undergraduate medical student education as a central focus of career development.
• Be able to provide career guidance to medical students.
• Be able to provide overall vision for the clerkship in collaboration with clerkship coordinator, other faculty, the chair, the Assistant Dean of Osteopathic Clinical Education, and the dean.
• Have working knowledge of national, school-wide, and department-specific curricular goals for students in his or her own community, school, and discipline.
• Be willing and able to work with other disciplines and professions in order to provide interprofessional education and practice into the clerkship.
• Have demonstrated excellence in teaching. Motivate colleagues to teach and to recruit new faculty into teaching roles.
• Have prior relevant experience, such as clerkship site coordinator, assistant CD, or assistant director of medical student education.
• Have skills, willingness, and time to work with the dean’s office and other departments to define interdepartmental goals.
• Have the professional skills to give feedback to teachers and provide faculty development in teaching for residents and junior faculty.
• Be able to advise the Department Chair, faculty, and preceptors about educational policy/procedures as needed.
• Be able to represent the clerkship on committees.
• Have skill in strategic planning, to anticipate changes in resources and needs.
