Emory Healthcare seeks a cardiothoracic surgeon for a faculty position with Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. The faculty member will serve as the Medical Director of the Emory Healthcare and Tanner Health System cardiothoracic surgery partnership. The individual will be based full-time at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton, GA and will work under the direction of the Dr. Robert Guyton, Senior Surgeon of Emory Affiliate Programs, and Dr. Michael Halkos, Division Chief of Emory CT Surgery.
The Emory-Tanner cardiothoracic surgery partnership officially commenced on January 1, 2022. Leading up to this date, Emory and Tanner have worked together closely to craft and gain approval from the State of GA of a Certificate of Need to begin a de novo CT Surgery program at Tanner Medical Center. The execution of the contract to partner on this effort is a culmination of a multi-year joint planning effort by Emory and Tanner to develop a high-quality CT surgery program that serves the patients of West Georgia and East Alabama. The partnership brings excellent clinical care to the local community leveraging the longstanding expertise and experience of the Emory Cardiothoracic Surgery program combined with a highly successful locally owned and administered, fiscally stable, hospital system dominating its service area with outstanding clinical outcomes. The target date for operative commencement is January 2023.
The Medical Director will serve as the primary onsite surgeon working with Tanner and Emory CT Surgery to execute and/or aid in all elements of the program. She/he will partner closely with the Emory Senior Surgeon, as well as with the Tanner Heart and Vascular Dyad leadership on all aspects of the program including, but not limited to:
The faculty member will have the opportunity to perform both cardiac and general thoracic procedures as part of the only CT Surgery program in the area. The position will be the primary representative for the Emory team at Tanner working in collaboration with cardiologists, pulmonologists, cardiothoracic staff (including Emory-employed PA/NPs), anesthesia staff, hospital management, and the medical staff to promote the provision of high quality patient care and progressive development and clinical expansion of the program.
Requirements:
Physician must be duly licensed to practice medicine in the State of Georgia, board certified in Thoracic Surgery, admitted as an active member to the Hospital's medical staff and employed by Emory. The physician must sign the Non-Compete Agreement of The Emory Clinic, Inc. as a condition of employment.
