Carilion Clinic, the premiere health care provider of Southwestern Virginia, is recruiting a Director for our NEW Center for Grief and Healing. Our vision is that services will support a range of medical specialties and integrate with other community organizations to build a robust, integrated network of regional grief and loss services. We desire to not only develop a peer-support structure and development of evidence-based online, group, and family interventions, but to integrate Healing Arts into our programming.
This position is responsible for development, coordination, and deployment of supportive, interventional, peer-based, and academic related grief and loss services within the Carilion hospital system and outpatient clinics. The position will include direct delivery of clinical services, as well as administrative oversight of the Center for Grief and Healing. The position will be responsible for hire and oversight of Psychological Services staff located under the Center for Grief and Healing. The position will promote and support integrated academic and research related activities and may be directly involved in fundraising for the Center for Grief and Healing.

Our community-based care organization encompasses seven hospitals, over 220 primary and specialty physician practices and other complementary services in Western Virginia.
Carilion Clinic is based in Roanoke, VA, a metropolitan city surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains conveniently located within a short drive to large metropolitan areas. Education: Master’s level or higher degree in clinical mental health or related field required. Terminal doctoral degree (PhD, PsyD, DSW, EdD) preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years experience in:
Delivery of clinical mental health services, integrated medical services, and/or public health and population-based health services.
Knowledge and expertise for clinical models and evidence-based interventions applicable to treatment of grief, loss, and resiliency.
Experience and knowledge for integration of healing arts-based practices within service offerings.
Previous experience and demonstrated effectiveness in/with:
Facilitating individual and group-based therapy and psychological intervention.
Supervising mental health and healthcare professionals.
Experience with program development and evaluation or process improvement methods.
Formal experience in research within psychology, counseling, prevention and public health, or related area.
Experience working with a diverse geographical and range of individuals who have experienced varied and multifaceted types of loss.
Education, teaching, curriculum development and supervision of medical and/or affiliated health trainees and residents.
Ethical, professional, and state regulations and standards for use of telehealth in delivery of psychological services.
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Active licensure as a mental health professional (licensed clinical psychologist, licensed clinical social worker, or licensed professional counselor) or ability to obtain licensure in the state of Virginia by date of hire. Certification or registration as an arts-based therapist (REAT, ATR, MT-BC, DMT, etc.) is also desired but not required. Registration as a clinical mental health supervisor or able to become registered in the state of Virginia within one year of employment as required by professional scope and applicable standards of practice for Licensed Clinical Social Work and Licensed Professional Counselor applicants.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Demonstrated leadership, planning, organizational, and budget management skills. Computer skills sufficient to meet key objectives of the position. Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills. Ability to build rapport and establish relationships through strong interpersonal skills. Experience and effectiveness in working with diverse individuals and groups. Excellent communication and teamwork skills required to collaborate with individuals across disciplines and at all organizational levels. Must be able to effectively manage customer service practices. Must be able to handle numerous projects and deadlines simultaneously. Contributes to a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion. Exhibits passion for serving those who’ve experienced loss as well as integrating healing arts and complementary approaches as part of a whole person healing process
