Augusta, ME – MaineGeneral Health seeks a dynamic, transformational physician executive to serve as its next Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for MaineGeneral Medical Center. MaineGeneral Health is a comprehensive community healthcare delivery system with approximately $560 million in net revenues, serving patients from 88 cities and towns through the Kennebec Valley region of Maine. MaineGeneral Health features a medical center with two campuses: the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta, which provides both inpatient and outpatient care, and the Thayer Center for Health in Waterville, which provides comprehensive outpatient care along with a 24/7 emergency department. In addition to the medical center, MaineGeneral Health also supports the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care and the Kennebec Region Health Alliance PHO. The vast majority of physicians practicing within MaineGeneral Health are employed by the organization.
Reporting to MaineGeneral Health Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Steve Diaz, the CMO is an integral member of the senior leadership team for MaineGeneral Health, facilitating a culture of clinical quality and operational excellence with an eye on patient experience. The CMO will be responsible for all clinical care delivery to MaineGeneral Medical Center patients, including serving as the physician administrator for health system's physician enterprise, which is considered a department of the hospital. This leader will work across disciplines and throughout the care continuum to drive hospital-operating efficiency through an emphasis on continuous improvement. The CMO will also foster a culture of physician leadership development throughout the medical staff with the goal of grooming the future physician leaders of the health system.
The successful candidate will be an individual who has a passion for providing outstanding care to the community and a desire to improve systems to maximize efficiency. The CMO will be a bridge builder/uniter and someone who has superb communication skills as well as high emotional intelligence. The successful candidate will have an intimate knowledge of hospital operations, knowledge of CPOE and EMR, ability to use data analytics to drive change of physician behavior and understand the value of building effective relationships with multiple partners and stakeholders in a highly matrixed environment.
