Position Overview

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin (UW) School of Medicine & Public Health is recruiting a full-time physician at the faculty rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor to lead our Division of Child Protection. This position will lead the clinical, research, and outreach missions of the UW’s Child Protection Program.

The Division Chief will play a pivotal role in maintaining strong community partnerships and enhancing the region-wide advocacy efforts for children affected by child maltreatment. This person will lead a skilled multidisciplinary team in providing clinical care to suspected victims of child abuse in both the ambulatory and inpatient environments. Educational activities will include bedside, classroom, and small group teaching to a variety of learners and community partners. A strong interest in clinical research or scholarly activity is expected. Outstanding communication skills and a collaborative work ethic are essential for this position.

Degree and Area of Specialization

M.D. or equivalent; completion of accredited pediatric residency program and fellowship training in child abuse pediatrics required.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience

Completion of accredited pediatric residency program and fellowship training in child abuse pediatrics. Experience working in an academic medical center and a desire to incorporate teaching to a variety of learners into clinical practice is preferred. Research in an area of interest to the candidate is expected. Outstanding communication skills, the ability to effectively lead a team, and experience building collaborative partnerships are essential.

License or Certificate

WI medical licensure; BC/BE required

The 111-bed American Family Children's Hospital opened in August of 2007 and is the only facility in Madison exclusively devoted to the care and treatment of children. In addition to serving our local community, the hospital receives tertiary referrals from throughout the state and region and is staffed by providers from every subspecialty area. The Department of Pediatrics has 188 faculty and offers a full range of pediatric subspecialty care.
