Job Summary: The Vice President- Inpatient Services is responsible for the overall performance of VEP’s Hospitalist Division and serves as a member of the medical leadership for VEP. The VP – Inpatient Services is responsible for the supervision of the Hospitalist, Intensivist and Pulmonologist Medical Directors at each client hospital and for ensuring that each program operates efficiently and effectively. The performance of the VP sets the stage and example for all aspects of the delivery of hospitalist and intensivist services at VEP hospitals. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership and problem solving skills, has a positive attitude with a high degree of energy, is an effective and persuasive communicator who can interact well with all levels of VEP and hospital leadership and has an excellent clinical reputation.
Licensed physician, preferably California
Board certification in a relevant specialty
Extensive training in hospital or critical care medicine with the ability to work minimal clinical shifts per month as needed.
Formal physician leadership / management training or experience as a director of a hospital medicine program is required.
Accountable for ensuring effective leadership and quality clinical care is provided at each VEP Inpatient Services lines.
Accountable for developing and maintaining strong client relationships by establishing regular meetings with hospital administration (CEO, COO, CFO, VPMA, CNO) to discuss progress and address concerns. Reports back to VEP executive leadership on additional follow-up required.
Monitors and mentors hospitalist and intensivist medical directors to optimize clinical quality, efficiency, and productivity, and serves as first point of contact for the site medical directors.
Holds monthly meetings with hospitalist and intensivist program leaders & providers to discuss program growth & status, quality improvement results and corporate updates.
Generates a quarterly program progress report to VEP’s Executive Leadership team on and presents program updates at least annually at the Shareholders/Directors meetings.
Participates in the ongoing recruitment efforts of the division by partnering with VEP’s recruitment department, presenting at didactic lectures, interviewing candidates, and focusing on physician retention.
In partnership with the site medical directors, ensures VEP providers meet quality & performance expectations at each site.
Participates in new contract acquisitions in conjunction with President and acquisition team.
May serve as a startup Medical Director for new contracts or the Interim Medical Director when a loss of a Medical Director occurs.
Assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of quality initiatives in conjunction with the Chief Quality Officer and site directors.
Responsible for other duties that may be assigned by the President / CEO / COO.
