Reading Hospital, a 715-bed hospital that is part of Tower Health System, is currently recruiting for an experienced and esteemed leader to oversee the Pharmacy Department. The Pharmacy Director will implement the strategic plan, as well as organize and direct the operations of the Pharmacy department. The Director will be responsible for an annual budget of approximately $70M and will plan the course of the department to achieve budgetary and regulatory compliance while ensuring high quality and best practices in clinical services and medical management systems. In addition, the Director will promote the education and development of the staff of approximately 100 FTE’s, as well as maintain and support the PGY1 residency program and affiliations with Pharmacy schools. The Pharmacy Director reports directly to the Administrative Vice President.
Key objectives include:
Leading the Pharmacy portion of the Tower integration project to Epic
Establishing a standardized formulary across all Tower Health entities
Creating a system-wide Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
Implementing USP 800 and USP 797 proposed changes
Serving as an advisor to Tower Health pharmacy directors
The Pharmacy Department at Reading Hospital was newly constructed in 2014 and features state-of-the-art automation which includes Dose Edge, MedBoard, RIVA Robot Infusion Center Pharmacy built to USP 800 standards in 2015, and robust clinical services which support the PGY1 residency program.
This position is ideal for an experienced Pharmacy Director who is very collaborative, innovative, strategic, and knowledgeable of current pharmacy standards, trends and the future direction of Pharmacy practices within Healthcare. To qualify for this exciting and challenging role, candidate must possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or PharmD with at least 5 years of pharmacy management experience
Residency experience strongly preferred. Board-eligible for Pennsylvania licensure may be accepted in lieu of license; PA Pharmacist license required with 4 months of employment
Strong experience as a hospital pharmacist, as well as a leader within Pharmacy
Thorough knowledge of pharmacy operations, processes, and policies appropriate to a hospital setting
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Strong project management, problem solving, and consultative skills
Evidence of collaborative work with Nursing and other key customers
Ability to provide examples of win- win solutions implemented, as well as creative business plans to achieve difficult objectives
Demonstrated experience evaluating practices and implementing improvements/enhancement to Pharmacy practices
Demonstrated experience developing and leading staff
Experience supporting affiliations with Pharmacy programs
Experience with Epic a plus
