The Department of Family and Community Medicine (“DFCM”) at Jefferson Health is seeking a Family Medicine physician to fill the newly created position of Vice Chair of Clinical Operations. DFCM operates ambulatory primary care clinics at multiple sites in the Philadelphia area. Its largest site, is a complex, primary care urban practice with over 100,000 annual visits across all sites of care. This is an opportunity for a senior physician to be responsible for the effectiveness of clinical operations within DFCM, as well as the primary Departmental partner with Department of Medicine leadership in the broader collaborative primary care effort at Jefferson.
Reporting to the Department Chair, the Vice Chair is charged with defining the ambulatory practice model, driving teamwork and standardization to ensure effective and high-quality patient care, and maximizing patient, staff, and faculty satisfaction. The Vice Chair will work closely with the Senior Clinical Primary Care Administrator and DFCM Departmental Administrator to establish and maintain business relationships within Jefferson’s highly matrixed organizational and network model.
The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced and Board-Certified Family Medicine physician preferably with an advanced degree in business (e.g. MBA or MPA), public policy (e.g. MPH, MPP) or a similarly relevant field. S/he will bring significant clinical leadership experience to the position, either as a current or prior Medical Director and be an accomplished and respected clinician. S/he will be working in, or have significant prior experience with, an academic practice model.
Jefferson Health encompasses Thomas Jefferson University, the 957-bed Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, a 13 hospital/6,000 physician network, and Philadelphia University. DFCM is considered to be the largest academic family medicine practice in the country with a fully integrated residency, fellowship and faculty practice delivery model. Operating with a budget of $22M and a faculty of 45 physicians and seven nurse practitioners, it enjoys a broad patient mix typical of its urban setting. In 2017, total visits numbered 112,000 with a significant percentage of those visits taking place at its primary location situated in the heart of Center City.
