The Chair, is the academic, clinical, and administrative leader of the Department of Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University. With the support of the Dean, the Chair has the opportunity to build a leading national program in medicine through the recruitment, retention and development of approximately 135 full-time faculty with primary appointments in the Department of Medicine.
The Chair of Medicine leads and directs programmatic, clinical, research, and educational development within the Department. The following clinical divisions are included the Department of Medicine:
Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism
General Internal Medicine
One of the institution’s vision for the Department of Medicine is to have it grow into a nationally-leading comprehensive clinical, research, and training program. This Department should be a key area of strength for our university. The new Chair will be the leader and steward of this process of attaining national recognition as an innovative center of excellence, with regional, statewide and national impact. The Chair will grow an externally funded research program within the full spectrum of translational science, from molecules to healthcare and populations. Experience in obtaining, growing and effectively managing a portfolio of NIH research grants and philanthropic research support is highly desirable.
