Opportunity Overview
Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health is seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Chair of Anesthesia to lead one of Central Pennsylvania’s most respected anesthesia departments. This is a rare opportunity for a dynamic physician leader to define the future of anesthesia care across a top-ranked regional health system and within the broader Penn Medicine network.
The Chair will oversee all anesthesia services for Lancaster General Hospital – a 602-bed, Level One Trauma Center and U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospital” – as well as several outpatient and ambulatory locations. The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical experience, strategic insight, and a passion for fostering collaboration and clinical excellence.
The Role
As the executive clinical and operational leader for anesthesia services, the Chair will:
- Shape a vision for comprehensive, high-quality anesthesia care across inpatient and outpatient sites.
- Lead a talented team of 35 anesthesiologists and more than 60 CRNAs dedicated to exceptional care and safety.
- Drive a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement, ensuring high reliability and zero harm.
- Partner closely with hospital and system leadership to align departmental goals with Penn Medicine’s mission and strategic priorities.
- Advance clinical innovation and operational performance through data-driven quality, safety, and efficiency initiatives.
- Oversee financial and resource stewardship, including budgeting, productivity, and operational planning.
- Promote professional growth and engagement across the department.
Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited anesthesiology residency
- Board Certification in Anesthesiology
- Eligibility for unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license
- Demonstrated leadership experience in a complex healthcare organization
- Proven ability to build teams, inspire collaboration, and achieve measurable quality and operational outcomes
